Consequences Which Flow When a Called Chosen Leader and People Approach a Holy God

What is about to happen is a holy moment in this leader's life. It always is when we come to God and to His Word. Subsequent history was transformed by this pivotal juncture.

Take time to read the text of Exodus Chapters 19 and 20. Moses has led the people of God to the foot of Mount Sinai, and God begins to prepare Moses and the people to receive His Ten Words - the Ten Commandments.

Book For Men

These preparations reveal some important principles.

Consequences Which Flow When a Called Chosen Leader and People Approach a Holy God

The holiness of God - He is not to be taken lightly - or played around with - and He demands obedience - total obedience. This comes up frequently in these chapters. God was going to speak to that people, through Moses, and we see in verse 9 just what position the man of God has - in the eyes of God.

These Hebrew people were to wash their clothes - not an easy thing for them to do considering where they were - but they were to appear in their best before Almighty God. They were to appear before the Living God fresh, clean, attractive.

How they were going to approach God would be a sign of how seriously they were taking their relationship with God. This was not going to be a casual occasion.

Their calling - and our calling in Christ - is to be different - special - attractive - recognising before whom we come in praise and prayer. And, there are these limitations. There are things God does not want us to do. He does not want us to rush into spiritual matters - He puts boundaries - and commands us not to go beyond that. There are times when He wants us for Himself, totally.

Moses has to be told to tell the people time and time again. Repetition is not because there is nothing new to say. Repetition is to ensure that what God wants said has been said adequately - and then the responsibility lies with the people.

Moses communes with God. We never know what will happen when we commune with Almighty God, and particularly, when He calls us and when we do so on behalf of others.

In Chapter 20, we read of these ten words - the Ten Commandments - which Almighty God gives to the people. God wants to control His people, and He wants them to be in control of themselves. We are not set free from sin in order to be free to sin.

And the people of God are not to become a democracy - nobody here among these Hebrews has any democratic rights - and the Church of Jesus Christ is not a democracy. Nor is the church an aristocracy which is government by a few. Nor is the church an autocracy which is government by one man. We are called to be a theocracy, which means we are governed by Almighty God.

The source of the Ten Commandments is in the revelation of God.

Over these past years it has been suggested that Moses was just picking and choosing laws from all over the place and bringing them together in this collection. There is another law book which has very similar laws in it - written by a man called Hammurabi - and there are those who thought Moses just took some from that source, and some from some other document.

No! No! This is the Word of God - this is not the mere ideas of men. Just as the book of Genesis is not a myth - not made up - not just stories - but a record of what happened.

Jesus Christ had no problem referring to or quoting from the books of Genesis and Exodus.

We can trust this Word - no matter how people may regard us as being funny - or old fashioned - or peculiar - or fundamentalist - that only means you believe in the fundamentals of the faith - and who would want to be ashamed of that?

Five Ways People "Let Themselves Go" In A Relationship

When the chase is over and the quarry is bagged, the hunter or huntress often begins to neglect the tools that brought their game to bay. At this point, many people think the hunt is at an end and they let themselves go in the relationship.

Just because you have established an intimate relationship with a loving partner, it doesn't mean that you don't have to keep your tools polished and skills up-to-date. Being comfortable with your partner doesn't mean letting yourself go completely.

Book For Men

Men are more prone to this behavior than women, because they don't have the peer pressure to look good and dress well. Buddies can go around in cut-offs and tank tops and think they are fittingly attired for just about anything.

Five Ways People "Let Themselves Go" In A Relationship

Some women feel pressed to put on full make-up to go shopping at the supermarket. I knew one Southern belle who was fully made up to go to the health club and sweat it all off (but, that's Rule # 16 in the Southern Belle Primer).

Hanging out around the house in baggy sweats and flip-flops is one thing, but personal pride would seem to dictate that you clean up some, even if you're not going out.

Weight gain is one of the biggest bones of contention. The guy who develops a beer belly that hangs over his belt and his triceps sag worse than those of a certain porcine TV talk show hostess, is a real turn-off for romance with his sweetie.

Then there is the sweetie who goes from size eight to plus sizes in what seems like a few weeks (but is probably several months or more), because she no longer gets any exercise chasing down her prey (the poor slob).

Another letting go in an intimate relationship is to no longer feel you should go out together. While you guys were romancing, dancing the night away was a twice a week thing. Now the only shuffle you do is off to the bathroom during commercial breaks.

When you were getting acquainted, you wanted to know about everything he or she did at work, at play and at rest (Rest? What rest?). Now it seems like neither of you couldn't care less what is going on with the other. Disinterest is another way of letting go.

There is nothing in the rule book that says when you become a couple that you should stop trying to attract and please the other person. What reason is there to ever let your relationship founder because you have neither the energy nor incentive to work at it?

The ways that people let themselves go in a relationship are many, but these five are what surveys pick up as critical areas of concern:

Physically - Gaining weight, getting out of condition.

Letting your control of bad habits slide - Body noises (you know what I mean guys), bad breath and body odors.

Becoming messy - Allowing your personal space to get cluttered, even dirty.

Personal Hygiene - Not keeping up with your grooming.

Disinterest - Losing interest in your partner's activities and interests.

If you are really concerned about your partner's opinion of you, and if you have any personal pride, you should exercise your good habits and excise your bad ones. There is no excuse to be fat, lazy, uncouth, messy or unkempt.

With just a little bit of effort (the same effort you showed while dating) you can keep your relationship up by not letting go. Engage your partner in conversation, plan outings, workout together at the fitness center, take long walks in the park and develop mutual interests.

Time Does Not Change People - Only Jesus Christ The Son of God Can Do That

In the New Testament book of Acts at Chapter 25 and verse 6, Festus returns to Caesarea, having been in Jerusalem, and the trial of God's servant, Paul, begins all over again, after having been left to languish in prison for two years.

I have been in Caesarea many times and it would not be a nice place to be left imprisoned and particularly when you had no idea how long this was going to last. It is hot and humid. Think of what this disciple of Jesus Christ must have been feeling - the emotions - the wondering - after all, he was just one of us.

Book For Men

Some Jews come down from Jerusalem, making serious accusations against Paul, but unable to produce proof. Time does NOT change people. Time does not transform people.

Time Does Not Change People - Only Jesus Christ The Son of God Can Do That

So often we have been tempted to think that time will soften people, and cool their anger and fury and rage. That is what we would like to see, but that is not what we see in the Word of God, and this offers a degree of comfort. These religious leaders from Jerusalem have been up to this lark for some while now, and there is not a hint of change in their evil motives.

We can think that TIME will change the situation, and like a bad cold it will clear up. That is not what the Scriptures teach, and we see here, the seriousness of sin. Only the grace and mercy and love and power of the Lord Jesus Christ changes men and women - and transforms situations.

Paul would never have changed had it not been for his dramatic encounter with Jesus Christ outside Damascus - and his receiving help and ministry from Ananias - being healed - filled with the Holy Spirit - and baptised in water.

There is another side to this. TIME should not mellow us either. I am glad Paul never mellowed as the years went by. I rejoice that he remained with that which was real and true - faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ - holding fast to the fundamentals of the faith right to the very end.

Yes, through time - he learned lessons - so do we. He gained experience which he passed on to others, and we should develop in these ways too, and seek to pass it on as the opportunities arise.

Paul never lost sight of what was central. He never lost sight of the vision given to him at the very beginning.

He never forgot about what lay at the heart of being a disciple and apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ. Many people never see what is central and real and vital.

Paul knows who he is, and to whom he belongs. He has an assurance that Jesus Christ His Saviour and Lord is in control, and he is going to hold on to that and trust the living God.

What he has seen happen in the past, helps him trust for to-morrow. Let your past experiences of the living Christ encourage and inspire you for the work and ministry of these future days and weeks.

As he goes on trial yet again, he displays no bitterness or resentment.

He remains so gracious and calm and rational, exercising self-control.

Paul has come through these two years victoriously and triumphantly, and he is ready for the next phase of service in the Kingdom of God. Are you?

10 People Who Have the Best Car Insurance Rates

Buying a new car insurance policy is not easy. You have to consider how much coverage you want and what kind of protection you need. If you're wondering what kind of people get the lowest insurance rates and why here's an interesting list of people. Find out whether you fit into any one of these categories and how can you be that person who enjoys more coverage at the best rates!

1. Mr. Mature: Thousands of women and men world over are busy getting face-lifts and all kinds of implants to make themselves look younger but growing old has its benefits when it comes to car insurance. Statistics show that individuals under the age of 25 take more risks while driving and so their insurance rates are higher. But older drivers are more careful and mature, so their car insurance rates drop.

Book For Men

2. Mr. Turtle: People who consistently drive slowly will get themselves into fewer accidents because they take time to make safer driving decisions. It might just be time to refuse to race your college buddy down an empty street. You will get fewer speeding tickets and keep a clean driving record. All these factors are taken into account when an insurance company decides your insurance rate.

10 People Who Have the Best Car Insurance Rates

3. Mr. Fix it Yourself: For those times you do get into an accident, as much as possible, try to foot the bill or fix it yourself. The fewer insurance claims you make, the lower your rates will be because the insurance company's records will not show a higher accident rate for you. It goes without saying, don't shy from using your car insurance when you do need it-that's why you're paying for it.

4. Mr. Stone Cold Sober: The one sure way to get a terrible record and be labeled a risky driver is by getting a couple of DUIs. This doesn't mean not drinking at all but make sure you don't drive to a pub when you plan on drinking and don't have a sober friend to drive you back home. Three out of ten Americans get into at least one alcohol-related accident in their lifetime. That means that using alcohol responsibly can not only give you the best car insurance rates but also save your life.

5. Mr. Good Credit: The way you use your money reflects whether you are a risk-taker. Shopping sprees that last for days running on credit will not help your reputation but paying your credit card bills on time will give you good credit. This is a habit that the best of us slip up with but one that benefits in so many ways because good credit is one of life's greatest blessings.

6. Suburban Dweller: Living in a safer neighborhood has some hidden advantages. The location of your house tells your car insurance company whether your vehicle is more prone to be stolen or vandalized or whether it is likely to be safer. You will get cheap car insurance quotes if you live in the suburbs rather than the inner city or neighborhoods where the crime rate is higher than other areas.

7. Mr. Mix and Match: If you're planning on buying a house and need to buy insurance, try combining your car insurance with it. Grouping your various insurances together will give you better rates for all of them.

8. Master Bookworm: If your child is a senior in high school or a college freshman, getting good grades will make a huge difference in your car insurance rates. Most car insurance companies will give a discount if your GPA is above 3.0. So being a book-worm doesn't just pay off after college, it's also great to reduce the money you shell out for car insurance while still in college.

9. Mr. Cautious: Installing car alarms and air bags in your vehicle can make the world of a difference in your insurance rates. They make your car less likely to be stolen or severely damaged in an accident. That's why insurance companies will often give discounts just because you make driving safer for yourself.

10. The Misses: Statistics show that there are more men drivers than women drivers which mean that most accidents would involve men. Even though the number of women drivers is steadily increasing, the number of women is still lower and they therefore get lower insurance rates.

These 10 factors make a huge difference when you're comparing car insurance quotes online. Find out which companies give greater discounts in these categories before choosing your insurance. Furthermore, there are things that you can't change about yourself like your age or gender but remember that you can maintain a clean driving record and a good credit score anytime.
