I think if there is one thing that tortures all women it Christmas when we are expected to find the perfect gift for everyone we know! By far the worst people to buy for, at least in my humble opinion, are men.
When you ask them what they'd like they just shrug and say nothing. We can fall back on the old faithful like socks, slippers, alcohol and underwear but do we really want to do that?
Book For Men
My husband laughs at me and the level of consideration I put into every gift I buy. I believe that when it comes to giving a gift it's a time to show someone special how much you love them, how much you appreciate them and how ell you know them. This doesn't mean that the gift must be expensive, in fact some of the most personal gifts I have given, or received for that matter, have been some of the cheapest.
My wedding is the perfect example. We received lots of expensive gifts which all very beautiful and wonderful but the one both my husband and I love the most cost less than £10. This inexpensive gift was a photo frame; I believe it cost £7.99 from Ikea. It had a very wide cardboard boarder inside the frame which was passed around our guests and signed like a guest book. This basic frame suddenly transformed into one of our most prized possessions. It holds a photo of the entire wedding party and takes pride of place in our house and will stay that way for as long as I can imagine. The thing that made the frame so special was the sentiment it conveyed, every time we look at it we see messages of love and support from everyone we care about.
I try to convey the same message in every gift I give but men just make it so hard! Then I realised we can all say at least a few things that the men in our lives like, be it golf, football, a car or hopefully the kids/grandkids. So why not take the things we know they love and change them into something unique?
This is where I found a new direction for my home based engraving business; I could cater to awkward men! I have a huge range of gifts which are suitable for men of all ages and I can engrave them with a photo of the things that really matter to them.
I have made pocket watches with the family dog on, lighters with football logos on, poker chips with children on and much more. But to me the thing I have really made is women who know of my shops lives easier. They no longer have to hunt for hours or try to squeeze an answer out of their men. They can take what they know about the man in their lives and create a truly unique gift perfectly suited to them.
